ABOUT MRSC

DEDICATED TO MARYLAND

The Maryland Rooftop Solar Coalition was established in 2022 with hopes to revive the Maryland rooftop solar market.  One of our current goals is to improve the incentive program of customer sited solar by making solar power more accessible and affordable through effective

policy advocacy.

SOLAR IMPACT

  • REDUCE ELECTRIC COSTS: The combination of high average electricity rates (13.12 cents per kWh) and high average energy usage (20th highest in the US) makes the average electricity cost in Maryland among the highest in the country

  • CREATE SUSTAINABLE JOBS: Solar is a proven boon for economic growth, employing more than 230,000 Americans – including approximately 5,000 in Maryland. Unfortunately, solar installations have fallen to roughly one half the peak levels achieved in 2016. Creating a refundable tax credit for residential solar installations can reverse this trend and create new jobs in the process.

  • AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL: In Maryland, LMI households pay 550% more on energy as a portion of household income than non-limited-income households. Promoting equitable access to clean energy incentives can level the playing field for LMI households.

  • MEETING CLIMATE GOALS: Maryland recently passed The Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022, which set a statewide goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions 60% below 2006 levels by 2032, and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. Meeting this goal will require a dramatic expansion of renewable energy, including rooftop solar.
